Noreen L. Papa "Mothers: Live your Life" fund

Established at the Ridgefield Library in 2014 in partnership with her family and friends, the Mothers: Live Your Life fund honors Noreen L. Papa, a Ridgefield mom, library advocate and early supporter of the Run Like A Mother 5K who died of colon cancer in 2013.

Contributions to the Fund support Library programs and collections dedicated to women's health and wellness, specifically to educating mothers to take care of themselves so they can take care of others. Donations to the Fund may be dedicated to Noreen or made in honor or memory of another imporant woman in your life.

About Noreen

if you didn’t know noreen when she was here on earth, you missed someone that was a best friend, a confidant, an incredible mother and wife, a nurturing soul and an athlete that was committed to living a healthy life. the most amazing part of noreen was that she was all of those things to all that knew her.

noreen wrote in small letters and dot, dot, dots…but that was the only small part of noreen that existed.

what she wants you to know now is that often as mothers we don’t take the time to care for ourselves… putting our problems off to care for our children and the well-being of everyone else.

‘tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow…i will call, schedule that appointment, get checked…tomorrow.’

noreen was passionate about the ridgefield library, she was passionate about ridgefield.  she was a prolific reader and wrote constantly.  her words were a gift that touched us all.

through the ridgefield library, her family and friends hope to keep the memory of noreen and her mission to live a healthy life in front of all the mothers that walk through the library doors.  our goal for the mothers: live your life programs is to carry on the memory of noreen by providing books and lectures that educate mothers to take care of themselves, live a little, test their bodies through running and fitness and to continue to grow into individuals.  mothers: live your life…through your life the world will grow.

this poem was taken from noreen’s blog post before she passed away.  this is her message to you.  take care of yourself so you can care for others.

and no matter what…bring joy to those around you…

noreen xoxo

They have strengths that amaze men.
They carry children, they carry hardships, and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up for injustice.
They don’t take “no” for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without new shoes so their children can have them.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their loved ones get awards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a new marriage.
They are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Mothers come in all sizes, in all colors and shapes.
They’ll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a mother is what makes the world spin!
Mothers do more than just give birth.
They bring joy and hope.
They give compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Mothers have a lot to say and a lot to give.
