Thank you to the Ridgefield community for helping to make each step in the Library’s reopening a success. The health and safety of our community and staff remains our primary concern and our most important service priority. Everyone’s patience, understanding and cooperation are helping us to ensure that a visit to the Library is a safe one. Thank you!
For over two months now we have been welcoming patrons back for Express Browsing hours, we have also added the use of computers, copiers and the fax/scanner equipment. Contactless Lobby Pickup remains very popular. We understand that for many of you, being able to pick up your requested materials and not enter further into the Library is what feels most safe.
As our State moves forward with reopening, we will also be increasing our services with the understanding that for each step we must continue to follow the guidelines for reopening public libraries issued by the State of CT and the CT State Library. Thanks also for sharing the additional services that you need as our patrons’ suggestions are the best way to guide our plans. We’ve heard that added hours and seating are high priorities. Expect an announcement soon about added services.
You may have heard the exciting news of state support for CT public libraries. There have been many meetings and a survey for libraries led by the CT State Library with members of the Governor’s team focusing on how libraries across the state have been serving their communities during the pandemic and determining how the state can support library resource sharing. It was announced that 62 public libraries were selected to receive direct funding support. Those chosen are either urban libraries serving large, low income communities or small rural libraries which struggle with internet connectivity. This is welcome news as state support for libraries has been drastically cut through years of budget deficits. Benefit to any library truly does benefit all as CT libraries share resources among our patrons.
Here in Ridgefield, we hope to see you at the Library. As a reminder, visitors must wear masks, observe social distancing, and use hand sanitizer while in the Library. While we are able to increase capacity in Phase 3 of the Governor’s reopening, the Library does still have to limit the number of patrons in the building at any one time. Access to the Children’s Library will continue to be by appointment, with drop-ins accommodated as capacity allows. Detailed information and FAQs about changes to our services and using the Ridgefield Library during this step are available on our website www.ridgefieldlibrary.org. Please take a moment to read through these before planning your visit.
Additionally, a couple reminders that our outdoor book drop is open seven days per week for return of materials. We are quarantining returned materials per recommended guidelines for your safety and we will not charge overdue fines during these challenging times. We do ask that you return materials on time so that they are available for others to enjoy. Please note that due to quarantine requirements it may take up to 6 days for items to be checked in off your library account.
As mentioned above, the Library will continue to offer contactless pickup of materials in the Library Lobby by appointment, Monday-Friday 10am-1pm, and we will maintain all our popular Virtual Library services, including online programming for all ages, online individual research and technology support, access to our digital collection, and remote access to our catalog and Library card account services. You can call us Monday-Friday 10am-5pm at 203-438-2282.
Please be assured, the Ridgefield Library will continue to follow local, state and federal guidelines to ensure patron and staff safety as we take each step to expand in-person Library services. We are grateful to the Friends of the Ridgefield Library for providing generous support for the necessary modifications to the Library building and equipment.
As this situation evolves, our services may be subject to change. We will continue to communicate with email updates, so please be sure to join our email list, and check our website www.ridgefieldlibrary.org for current information. We thank you for your patience and support during this time.
