Adult Services Department Head – Ridgefield Library

The Ridgefield Library is seeking an energetic, experienced library manager with a track record of innovative public library service to adults and teens to join our exemplary staff as our new Adult Services Department Head. The Adult Services Department Head supports the successful operation of the Library by supervising all aspects of the provision of library services to adults and teens, including direct, active management of Adult Services Department staff; supervision of collection development in all formats for adults and teens; oversight of public-facing technology; and supervision of programming and outreach to adult and teen populations. This position is a key member of the Library’s management team, responsible for general management of the Adult Services department, policy recommendations, strategy development, setting operational priorities and active leadership. The Adult Services Department Head promotes and advocates for the Library within the community and continually seeks out new ideas and opportunities to better serve the changing needs of our adult and teen constituencies. The Adult Services Department Head participates in setting the future direction for the Library by working towards the goals and objectives embodied in the Library’s Strategic Plan.

Qualifications: MLS from ALA accredited school of library/information science; excellent communication skills; five years progressively responsible relevant experience with at least three years of supervising staff. Must have the ability to make independent judgments, and to develop and mentor others in a collaborative environment. Comprehensive knowledge of adult and teen collections and services. Proficient in current and emerging technologies. Knowledge of Evergreen ILS a plus. Strong commitment to excellent public service required.

Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 40 pounds and ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds on wheels. This is a full-time (35 hours per week), exempt salaried position, on site five days per week with occasional evening and weekend work required. Starting salary range of $79,000-$83,000, dependent on experience, with an attractive benefit package, including health insurance, ample paid time off and 401K retirement savings plan with a generous organizational match. Children’s Services Library Technical Assistant (LTA) II

The Ridgefield Library seeks an energetic, creative, detail-oriented individual to begin year-round part-time employment as a Library Technical Assistant (LTA) II in our Children’s Services Department. This position would develop and execute up to three afterschool programs each month under the direction of the Head of Children’s Services and guidance of the Children’s Librarian and Children’s Program Coordinator, and be scheduled for duty at the Children’s Services public service desk to provide quality reader’s advisory, instruction and assistance in the use of Library resources, technology and equipment for children, educators and caregivers. This position supports the successful operation of the Children’s Services Department and the Library overall. 

Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 40 pounds and ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds on wheels. Pay is $18.60 per hour. This position is scheduled for an average of 10 hours per week that includes afternoon/evening shifts and a weekend rotation.  This position includes earned paid sick leave.
