November 13th @ 2:00pm: This ARTalk will focus on how the power and potential of the digital age and its many tools can empower artists, art enthusiasts, creative communities and businesses. Cash will explore how Ridgefield’s arts and cultural organizations, as part of Connecticut’s first-in-the-state cultural designation, have embraced a wider adoption of digital tools in daily life, especially during a pandemic. Cash is the new Ridgefield Arts Council Chair and has nearly a decade of experience in the global fine art market and creative economy. She is currently Senior Vice President of Artnet, the leading online resource for the sale, study, and analysis of fine art and its markets.
In her role at Artnet, Colleen manages its proprietary auctions business and oversees a global team in their facilitation of $30 million plus in sales of Post-War & Contemporary Art, Prints & Multiples and Photographs. She also oversees Artnet’s Gallery Network, which features 250,000 plus artworks from primary market galleries across the world.
Prior to her work at Artnet, Colleen held roles at Christie’s, Apollo Global Management, and several public institutions including the New York State Council on the Arts, the New York City Council and the consortium responsible for the redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B. Colleen holds a BA with Special Honors from Hunter College and is a frequent speaker in CUNY’s Arts Administration Program.

November 9th @ 7:00pm: Join us for a virtual reading and talkback with newly appointed Connecticut State Poet Laureate Antoinette Brim-Bell and Jaida Taveras, the state’s first-ever Youth Poet Laureate. The two honored poets will read from recent works, share hopes for their roles as laureates, and answer questions from the audience – and each other.
Antoinette Brim-Bell (photo, right) is the author of These Women You Gave Me, Icarus in Love, and Psalm of the Sunflower. She is a Cave Canem Foundation fellow, a recipient of the Walker Foundation Scholarship, and a Pushcart Prize nominee. Her work has appeared widely in literary journals and anthologies. A sought-after speaker, editor, educator, and consultant, Brim-Bell is a Professor of English at Capital Community College.
Jaida Taveras attends Washington University, where she is majoring in philosophy. Jaida is a member of the university’s slam team and teaches poetry to students in the St. Louis area. At Naugatuck High School, she served as a student representative of the Connecticut State Board of Education, a writer with Poetry Ourselves, an orator with the American Legion, and a performer with the Poetry Out Loud recitation competition.

Put your pumpkin character on display in the Library! Children ages 4-11 are invited to decorate a mini pumpkin in the likeness of a literary or media character. Prizes will be awarded for most creative, best representation, staff favorite, and best overall, with a very special Grand Prize: LEGO Hagrid’s Hut: Buckbeak’s Rescue! Pumpkin Drop-off is October 15-28. Public voting and staff judging will occur October 29-31. All pumpkins will be displayed in the Lodewick Children’s Library between October 15–November 4, and must be picked up no later than Tuesday, November 5th.

November 6th @ 2:00pm: The Ridgefield Folk Concert Series continues with local favorites, String Busters. String Busters is an acoustic band that plays a wide range of musical styles, from blues and bluegrass to country, folk and more. Each seasoned musician in the band contributes to fresh interpretations of well-loved songs. The band also performs its own original songs.

The Ridgefield Library welcomes Jane Lindenburg as the Library’s new Development Director. Ms. Lindenburg began her career as a communications consultant with the human resources firm Hewitt Associates (now AonHewitt). In the following ten years, she became a partner and a mother to two daughters. During a long hiatus from the professional world, Jane made a significant commitment to volunteer service in education, mainly in the Ridgefield Public Schools. Her recent career path includes work in development for an education start-up, the Ridgefield Playhouse and a nonprofit serving low-income students in Danbury. Ms. Lindenburg is a long-time Ridgefield resident and a graduate of Colgate University.
The Library undertook an extensive search process to replace Development Director Laureen Bubniak who retired from her position earlier this summer after 12 years of service. Library Director Brenda McKinley said, “We are thrilled to have Jane step into this critical role for the Library. Her professional experience and deep knowledge of our community make her the ideal candidate to continue growing and expanding on Laureen’s important work building the Library’s successful development program.”
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit association library, the Ridgefield Library is not fully funded by the Town of Ridgefield. The Development Director plays a vital role in helping to close the estimated 30% operational budget gap each year, enabling the Library to meet its stated mission: “The Ridgefield Library anticipates and meets the evolving needs of our community. We are an essential partner and the place where people discover, question, learn and connect.” Ms. Lindenburg will begin in her new role at the end of September, just in time for the Library’s annual LYL:Love Your Library weekend scheduled for Friday, September 30th-Saturday October 1st.

On Saturday, September 17th at 2:00pm, the Ridgefield Library will celebrate the creativity of local writer and longtime Ridgefield resident Ron Goulart.
You are invited to join his family and friends as we celebrate the life of Ron Goulart, author of more than 200 works of fiction and non-fiction: science fiction, mysteries, comic novels, TV and movie scripts, newsletters, cartoon strips, and more. Many of Ron’s books, manuscripts, sketch books and other memorabilia will be on display. Light refreshments will be served.
