Wednesday, June 11 @ 1:00 pm:  The Alzheimer’s Association offers a range of caregiver skill-building courses, which aim to help caregivers feel more prepared to handle the challenges that come with caring for someone living with dementia.

This session, “Supporting Independence,” focuses on helping the person living with dementia take part in daily activities, providing the right amount of support and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations.

This is a hybrid program. Attending in person is best, but the Zoom link is provided when you register.

MaryAnn Parisi, Assistant Branch Manager of the AAA Northeast Danbury branch will share with us with the breadth and scope of the services offered by the agency today. Due to a retirement and an internal promotion, the Ridgefield Library is seeking applicants for two open positions:

Circulation Assistant (Library Technical Assistant – I):

The Ridgefield Library in beautiful Ridgefield, CT seeks an energetic, friendly and detail-oriented individual with a commitment to exemplary customer service to begin year-round, part-time employment as a Circulation Assistant (LTA – I) in our outstanding Circulation Department.  This position works at the Library’s main Circulation Desk, providing the full range of Circulation services to Library patrons, and supports the successful operation of the Circulation Department and the Library overall.

Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 40 pounds and ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds on wheels.  Prior experience a plus.  This is a 20 hour per week position. Pay is $16.75 per hour plus the benefits of generous paid time off and a 401K retirement savings program with organizational matching. Children’s Services Assistant (Library Technical Assistant – II):

The Ridgefield Library in beautiful Ridgefield, CT  seeks an energetic, creative, detail-oriented individual to begin year-round part-time employment as a Library Technical Assistant (LTA) II in our outstanding Children’s Services Department.  This position is regularly scheduled for duty at the Children’s Services public service desk, provides quality reader’s advisory and technology assistance to children and caregivers; assists and instructs children and caregivers in the use of Library resources and equipment; and supports the successful operation of the Children’s Services Department and the Library overall.

Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 40 pounds and ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 80 pounds on wheels. Pay is $18.60 per hour. This position is scheduled for an average of 10 hours per week and requires the ability to work a flexible schedule which will include evening and weekend hours. Saturday, June 7: Join us to celebrate Ridgefield’s own Maurice Sendak with a birthday celebration!

Wild Things Family Storytime from 10:30-11:00 am: For families with children of all ages. Celebrate Maurice Sendak’s birthday by joining Ms. Kathleen for an all-age Wild Rumpus. We’ll stomp, sing and read together! Stay for a chance to take a photo with a Wild Thing mascot and practice your roars together! Registration is encouraged but drop-ins are welcome as space permits. 

Wild Thing Photo Op from 11:00-11:30 am: For children of all ages. Roar your terrible roars and show your terrible claws while taking a photo with a Wild Thing! Our costumed mascot character will be on hand for a meet & greet immediately following our Storytime to celebrate Maurice Sendak’s birthday. No registration required.

Collaborative Cardboard Cake Art from 11:30 am-12:30 pm: Let’s create a wild Birthday Cake! Children in PK-2nd grade are invited to contribute to this collaborative art project in honor of Maurice Sendak’s Birthday! We’ll explore multiple mediums and materials in this sensory art project alongside Rosie Snow Voulgaris of Pop Art! Kids. (Registration is now full.)

Wild Things Theatre from 2:00-3:00 pm: Students in Grades K-5 are invited to join Theatre Director Jacquie Militano and members of the RHS Theatre Department as we celebrate Maurice Sendak’s birthday by bringing Where the Wild Things Are to life in a theatrical presentation! Every student will have a chance to contribute to the story with the guidance of RHS actors. (Registration is now full.)

Tuesday, June 10 from 4:00-6:00 pm: Celebrate Maurice Sendak’s birthday by making your own “fantasy sketches.” We’ll provide music, paper and pencils – you provide the imagination! No registration required. Children must be accompanied by an adult for all activities. For grades K-5.

Sunday, June 8th @ 2:00 pm:  Led by two time Grammy nominated guitarist Doug Munro, La Pompe Attack presents an exciting, updated interpretation of the hot swing sound of Django Reinhardt, coupled with Doug’s own unique and highly entertaining style of playing and singing. The concerts for the 2025 season will focus on celebrating the musical legacy of Django Reinhardt. Drawing from Django’s extensive recorded library as well as material from La Pompe Attack’s last two releases, these shows are hot jazz of the highest order. Joined by a group of virtuosic performers including saxophonist Albert Rivera, drummer Ian Carroll, and bassist Michael Goetz, La Pompe Attack always delivers an exciting show guaranteed to wow any audience!

Thursday, June 5 @ 7:00 pm:  Join Ridgefielder Randy Becker for the launch of his new book, Perryburg: An Autobiography of a City, an urban, mosaic history of a Rust Belt city. Not a bland recitation of dates and facts, but rather an engaging weaving of lives, Perryburg engages the reader with people and lives that might feel real, familiar, and personal. Becker will be interviewed by Ridgefield Poet Laureate Ira Joe Fisher, who calls Perryburg “a grand read.”

Becker is a retired Unitarian Minister turned writer who has also penned The Venice Stories, Reclaiming the Soul of Your Faith and It’s Always the Little Things.

Tuesday, June 3 @ 7:00 pm:  Join us for a lively conversation about the picture book artform with contemporary author-illustrators Junjun Chen, Marianna Coppo, Rob Dunlavey, and Gracey Zhang. The Maurice Sendak Foundation‘s 2025 Fellows will share their experiences creating within the picture book form and their processes for pairing words and art. The evening will be moderated by 2015 Sendak Fellow and Fellowship Coordinator Doug Salati. A Q&A session and book signing will conclude the evening.
